Please see NEW details in this report and take note residents of Craigavon ................ 1. SAP FEEDBACK (Sector Manager: Constable Marillier - Cell No 078 215 0533) The following incidents occurred in January:. · 30 residential burglaries (no physical contact); 5 robberies (physical contact); 17 smash and grabs; 2 business burglaries · The majority of these incidents occurred in Craigavon, Douglasdale and Fourways. · The majority of the smash and grab incidents were on the corner of Hornbill and Jacaranda Roads: Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays between 1710-1740. This is when traffic is backed up under the bridge and is moving extremely slowly. The perpetrators park on the highway with their bonnet up as if they have broken down. They then sit on an embankment with a good view into the passing cars. Only ladies are targeted. The police recently carried out an under-cover operation here and noted that every lady who came past was on their cell phone and many of them had their bags in clear view on the passenger seat. Captain Swanevelder mentioned a special thanks to community members who assisted with this SAPS operation. Unfortunately no perpetrators were caught but the operation will be repeated. LADIES: DO NOT PUT BAGS ON PASSENGER SEATS. If you fall victim, please call 10111 or our patrol cars (071 675 7157/9) · The business burglaries occurred in Fourways between 2000-2300. · Two car hi-jackings: one in Fourways (corner of William Nichol and Witkoppen) and one in Meadowhurst (corner of Jacaranda andHornbill). Both occurred during the day. · Five robberies: One each in Craigavon, Douglasdale, Witkoppen and two in Fourways. · Two suspects were recently arrested in Craigavon. They are suspected of crimes in Farmall and Craigavon. Since these arrests, there have been no more reported incidents in Craigavon. · Good news: RSS and SAPS caught two house robbers in possession of jewelry. They were targetting a house in a complex and had gained access over the complex wall which runs along a river. They were seen by a domestic worker as they tried to get into a house and she warned the guard who called for back-up. One of the suspects has only been out of jail for two months and was out on parole. He will not get bail! · Be aware along rivers: perpetrators gain access to properties and complexes via rivers and also use them to exit surreptitiously. · The numbers of reported thefts out of vehicles is down slightly. · Violent crime in the area is reducing month after month but reported break-ins are increasing. SAPS advises us to be aware, keep grass cut, call our patrol cars if you see something suspicious. Also be responsible for yourself and your property: don’t forget to set your alarm and lock your doors. Criminals no longer drive jalopies – they are generally on foot or in luxury cars. Please remember that the police cannot get search warrants based on suspicions – they need evidence. · Look out for: White Polo (no other details) 2 white men linked with complex break-ins in Lonehill. |
