BLUE LIGHT GANG
Please note a criminal gang known as the
BLUE LIGHT GANG
is at large and operational in Johannesburg suburbs
.
According to an article in the Star (18
th
May 2010), heres what you need to know:
·
They dress up as Joburg metro police officers, complete with guns
·
They drive unmarked cars that have a flashing blue light on top.
·
They pull over motorists.
·
The gang pretends that they are bonafide police officers. Asking motorists for drivers licence etc before STATING YOU ARE BEING ARRESTED (FOR WHATEVER REASON THEY SAY) and insisting you get out of the car. Once out, they force you into their “squad” car, and hijack you. One drives the car with you in it, and the accomplice takes YOUR car.
These guys are smart. Ladies and gents, please lets be smart too.
WHAT TO DO IN THIS SITUATION??
….
A police car / van is signaling you to pull over, and you don’t know whether these are real officers, or criminals pretending to be officers…
·
First
don’t bring your car to a complete stop
. (keep the car running and your foot on the brake, so if you suspect anything, ANYTHING AT ALL, just quickly drive away… and
go straight to the nearest police station. DON’T DRIVE HOME
, YOU DON’T WANT THEM TO FOLLOW YOU.
·
Don’t get out of the car – especially if its at night. No matter how forceful they are,
DO NOT GET OUT OF THE CAR
. Tell them straight, if you want to give me a ticket, do so, but im not getting out.
·
Try to see if the
car is marked
– is there a serial number on the front / sides of the car.
·
Try to see if the officer has a
badge
, badge number.
·
In the event that you refuse to get out of the car and the fake policeman pulls a gun at you,
ACCELERATE, AND DRIVE LIKE HELL. STRAIGHT TO THE POLICE STATION.
·
NEVER EVER EVER ROLL YOUR WINDOW ALL THE WAY DOWN.
KEEP IT OPEN A FEW FINGER SPACES, SO THAT THE PERSON CAN HEAR YOU, BUT NEVER ROLL IT ALL THE WAY DOWN. YOU DON’T WANT HIM TO LUNGE IN AND GRAB YOU.
·
If he wants to see your licence – DO NOT give it to him in his hand,
simply hold it up against the window
, if he asks for it, just say “no, you can see it like this, you don’t need to hold it.” if he insists, ask him to drive with you to the police station and you’ll show it to him there. If hes a real officer he wont hesitate, if hes a criminal, he’ll stall or refuse, at which point you DRIVE LIKE HELL.
DON’T PANIC. KEEP YOUR WITS ABOUT YOU, BE ALERT. THESE THUGS ARE ALL AROUND. LADIES & GENTS, INVEST IN A SMALL INEXPENSIVE CAN OF PEPPER SPRAY. KEEP 1 IN YOUR CAR, WITHIN EASY REACH (IN THE DOOR COMPARTMENT NEXT TO DRIVERS SEAT PERHAPS) AND THE OTHER IN YOUR BAG. BE SAFE!!

PIK IT UP Request
May 2010
Dear Proud Citizen of Joburg,
CLEAN CITY CAMPAIGN - CLEAN UP DAY SATURDAY 05 JUNE 2010
Pikitup is embarking on the second year of its ambitious campaign aimed at enhancing the cleanliness of Joburg ahead of the 2010 FIFA World Cup and beyond.
On Saturday 05 June 2010, Pikitup is organising a massive Clean-up Day, when everyone with the assistance of Pikitup will be invited to clean up the streets and recreation areas of Johannesburg’s city and suburbs’.
Pikitup’s aim is to clean up some of the most prominent “dirty spots” in Joburg that may be encountered by tourists and the global media during the 2010 FIFA World Cup, when the City will be in the world spotlight.
The overarching goal of the campaign is to change the mindsets and attitudes of citizens towards littering and illegal dumping permanently. Through the Clean City Campaign, Pikitup will engage with Joburg residents with one objective in mind to create awareness of the fact that the cleanliness of the city is the responsibility of both the City and its residents and will only succeed if everyone works together.
The 74 designated Pikitup gathering spots will be published in the media closer to the time. Should you or your organisation be interested in cleaning up, please register on the Pikitup website:
www.pikitup.co.za
or contact the Call Centre on 011 375 5555.
Please support this essential initiative “Pitch in and we’ll Pikitup”.
Yours sincerely

CRIME ALERT !!!
LATEST MODUS OPERANDI BY SUSPECTS IN LONEHILL
Lonehill has been plagued by burglaries of late where the target is
FLAT SCREEN TV's.
The suspects are lifting the house gates off the rails, doors etc are broken through and the TV's are taken -
nothing else.
This method of robbery has been applied to both stand-alone homes and Complexes. In Complexes the suspects gain access under false pretences and then break into, or in some cases, just walk into open units etc.
There have been 5 of these incidents during the last week and a half.
Please make sure that your
alarm is armed
and that your
security gates and doors are locked
, even when staying in a Complex. Let's not make it any easier for these suspects to get into our homes, and also make sure to protect our homes as best we can!
