CRAIGAVON COMMUNITY NEWS                  19/2010
SECURITY ALERT Please read this account of an incident on Thursday at 14h30 at Fourways Mall and be alert at all times. Good morning Paula, First off all thank you so much for your help and support with this.  Chris told me what you have done and that you had spoken to Douglasdale SAPS  about the mall security.Thursday afternoon just after 2:30 I parked my car at the Woolworths entrance to run in and get stuff before I would go to gym.  I parked close to the big road that runs between the mall and the Game complex.   I got out of my car and was heading towards the entrance when a white male approached me.  He was tall with a dark olive skin and had dreadlocks that were pulled back into a pony.  I thought it was someone that was trying to sell something so I excused myself and turned around to walk away when he grabbed me by my arm and told me to get in the car.  He pulled me back to a white kombi that was parked and the one side door was open.  In the back of the kombi there were two white males sitting.  I never looked in the front so I can’t really recall if there was a driver or not.   I tried to stay calm and pulled my arm away but his grip was very firm.  As soon as I tried to get away he took hold of my other arm and was pulling me back with force. I started screaming and fighting him when he lost his grip on me and I ran away.   I ran passed car guards but they did not even attempt to help or stop the car.   When Chris got to the parking area there was no sign of the kombi so they must have left in the 20 min between me leaving Fourways and Chris getting there.  I hope this can help you and hopefully other woman to make sure to look out for people like this.

1 SALFRED REZONING APPLICATION PLANNING HEARING There were only 2 people present (out of 12 objectors) and the Ward Councillor for this hearing which did not go at all well  ..............After being kept waiting for THREE hours we went in and the applicant ~ the advocate for the Church of Latter Day Saints promptly called for the hearing to be dismissed due to a technical error by JHB Council with regards to our objections – and yes! We were thrown out by the lady Chairperson Nana of the Planning Committee Hearing.  So on Inchanga Road between Randa and Perm Roads please foresee a LDS Temple (previously known as Mormon) to be erected which is less than 400m away than the existing church in Craigavon. The reason for the objection was TRAFFIC primarily, based on the fact that Craigavon roads are narrow and have to cope with enormous amount of residential traffic not to mention the other businesses that exist like the Junior School, the Memorial Park, Shopping Centres on Cedar etc etc which bring in exterior high traffic loads to our current flimsy road system.  CRIME REPORT BACK No actual  incidents have been reported to WCCA  for some time now which is maybe a positive sign however the Douglasdale Police are frequently seen visiting complexes so don’t be too assured. Be security aware at all given times! News from Lonehill R A ~ LOOKOUTS / HOT SPOTS:  Suspects are attempting to steal cars at Shopping Centres; 8 x males HONDA BALLADE - WXY 030GP - SILVERAUDI A3 - TSS 266GP - BLUE Please be alert the Pineslopes Centre Standard Bank ATM.  Suspects are hanging around in the area and distracting clients using the ATM in an attempt to steal their bank cards. Reports have been received of suspects driving a red bakkie similar to the Tactical (TRS) Security Company and trying to gain access to properties posing as Electric Fence Maintenance Staff.  Our CRAIGAVON CPF REPRESENTATIVE Rasmus Jensen has been very proactive in sending out hand delivered letters to every complex with regards to a new initiative for safety in Craigavon. IF you did not receive it as the Body Corp Chair or simply an interested person living in Craigavon please contact him directly on   This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it .   CRAIGAVON NEEDS YOU TO BE ACTVE NOW  LOWCOST HOUSING ACROSS THE RIVER WCCA attended a meeting with regards to the current informal settlement across the Klein Jukskei River at the bottom of Craigavon where there are essential 3 “squatter” areas – Msawawa which is visible from here, Pipeline and Kya Sands areas. These areas have grown exponentially over the years and the local government has decided to formalise 2 out of the 3 areas as a major project. Msawawa is not included in these as they are on private land (= plot 15) so will need to be relocated to official government land when this becomes available. The meeting was not well prepared as Plan Act the NGO, had little if no information for the project and in no manner of speech was this a public participation meeting. Should this take place, the chances are the local government will also find more reason to reopen the bridge which is not something WCCA believe is in the best interest of the Craigavon community. WCCA believe that through traffic using Campbell and Inchanga road is undesirable as we will have ü  Trucks to Kya Sandsü  Public transport in the form of public busesü  Taxi thoroughfareü  Further and increased pedestrian flowü  Cars taking short cuts rather than using the congested Witkoppen Roadü  Further congestion at our exit points on Cedar Aveü  Our crumbling tar road structure wont handle the increased flowü  More refuse discarded on our streets than we already haveü  New “spaza” shops along the routeü  Definite devaluation of properties in the Craigavon neighbourhoodü  Increase in crime is a real possibility Your opinion is valued by return email to WCCA which would be appreciated before further discussions are held. ( This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it )    BUSHBABIES ARE VERY ACTIVE AT THE MOMENT As the insect population declines in the area due to cooler weather and the onset of winter,  our bushbabies are having to travel further in order to source their food supplies ~ PLEASE DRIVE CAREFULLY AND REDUCE YOUR SPEED at dusk and dawn as they are frequently forced to cross the roads to reach the adjacent tree corridors.www.bushbabysos.org.za has further information for you on these magnificent animals that live in the area.
